About the Center
The Houston Nutrition & Obesity Research Center (HNORC) works to advance high-impact research in obesity and nutritional sciences by providing investigators with shared access to specialized services, resources and scientific expertise.
Our mission is to improve the quality, innovation and scientific rigor of research taking place throughout Houston and the greater southwest region of the United States.
A Collaborative Research Infrastructure
To address the complex biological challenges of obesity and nutrition, HNORC supports three integrated biomedical research cores:
Together, these cores enable investigators to access advanced technologies, equipment and expertise that are often cost-prohibitive for individual laboratories. This shared infrastructure strengthens scientific productivity, accelerates discovery and helps research teams respond rapidly to emerging scientific questions. In addition, our enrichment program provides education, training opportunities and resources to ensure full integration of nutrition-related research across all academic levels.
Who We Are
HNORC brings together a unique combination of clinical endocrinologists, nutrition scientists neuroscientists, and molecular biologists. Our collaborative research environment connects experts working in human nutrition, metabolism, physiology, neurobiology, behavioral health, and obesity therapeutics.
Current institutional partners include:
Baylor College of Medicine
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
Ben Taub Hospital
Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center
The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center
Texas Children’s Hospital
Expanding Across Texas
HNORC is actively expanding its membership across the Texas Medical Center and throughout the region. Over the coming year, we will continue to grow our investigator network and research collaborations to support obesity and nutrition science across Texas and the southwest.
Our integrated scientific community and state-of-the-art research capabilities position HNORC to advance new discoveries and accelerate the development of therapies for obesity and nutrition-related diseases.
We look forward to growing our network of clinicians and scientists and to fostering new collaborative opportunities that push the field forward.
